In 30 Jahren meiner klinischen Arbeit als Neurochirurg habe ich mich relativ früh auf minimal invasive Techniken in der Behandlung von Hirntumoren spezialisiert.
Mein stereotaktisches und mikrochirurgisches Training habe ich an den Universitätskliniken Homburg/Saar und Aachen absolviert, habe an der Duke University, Durham, USA ein Forschungsjahr verbracht, war Oberarzt an der Neurochirurgischen Universitätsklinik in Aachen und habe seit 1995 am Karolinska Krankenhaus in Stockholm weiter als Oberarzt gearbeitet und mich im Bereich der stereotaktischen Radiochirurgie spezialisiert, da am Karolinska Krankenhaus die Technik der Gamma Knife Radiochirurgie von Prof. Lars Leksell entwickelt worden war.
Zwischen 1999 und 2005 war ich medizinisch verantwortlich für die internationalen Gamma Knife Ausbildungskurse am Karolinska Krankenhaus, die weltweit für Neurochirurgen und Strahlentherapeuten vorgeschrieben waren, bevor man den klinischen Betrieb mit dem Gamma Knife aufnehmen durfte. Zwischen 2000 und 2001 sowie 2006–2008 habe ich das Karolinska Gamma Knife Center geleitet, und seit 2008 war ich neben der Tätigkeit am Karolinska Krankenhaus in Stockholm auch Co-Direktor des Gamma Knife Centres am Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London. Seit 10/2006 habe ich eine außerplanmäßige (apl) Professur für Neurochirurgie an der Rheinisch Westfälischen Technischen Universität Aachen und war zwischen 2007 und 2011 Präsident der Europäischen Gamma Knife Society (EGKS). Sprachen: Deutsch, Englisch, Schwedisch.
Meine klinische Priorität ist die Gamma Knife Behandlung von gutartigen und bösartigen Hirntumoren und von arterio-venösen Missbildungen.
